Maki Sushi (“Rolled Sushi”): These include “Futomaki”, the thick roll, “Hosomaki”, the thinner roll, and the “Uramaki” where the roll is rolled “inside-out” i.e., with the nori in the inside and rice on the outside. Maki sushi comes with a variety of fillings and is the most popular type of sushi outside Japan.
Wasabi (horseradish mustard)
In Japan sushi usually comes with wasabi in it, but because it is so strong restaurants outside Japan provide it separately so you can choose the amount to apply. As with the soy sauce, it’s best not to overdo the wasabi (a little dab on the sushi is enough) and risk losing the taste of the sushi. When eating sashimi (raw fish) you can dissolve some wasabi in the soy sauce dip.
